Event Abstract
A four-day capacity building program on eco-friendly bag making for Scheduled Caste women, funded by ICAR- National Academy for Agriculture Research and Management (NAARM) Hyderabad, took place from March 26 to March 29, 2025. The event was inaugurated by the chief guest, Dr. Gopal Lal, Joint Director of ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad, alongside Dr. N. Rajanna, Programme Coordinator and Head, and Dr. Vijender Reddy, CTO of NAARM, who lit the ceremonial lamp on March 26th , 2025, at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mamnoor, which operates under PV Narasimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University. During the event, Dr. Gopal Lal, Joint Director of ICAR-NAARM, encouraged women to fully utilize capacity development initiatives. He specifically urged them to acquire skills and knowledge related to marketing trends and to take initiative in starting a business focused on bags. He highlighted the importance of using eco-friendly bags to help reduce environmental pollution. He also promised that sewing machines would be provided to KVK under ICAR-Capital for distribution to the trainees. As part of this program, Dr. N. Rajanna explained the importance of the initiative and expressed gratitude to the sponsoring institution. Dr. Arunjyothi, SMS (Home Science) and course coordinator, outlined the schedule for the 4-day program. Earlier to this Dr A.Raju, SMS (Plant Protection) invocated the programme and inaugural session was concluded with formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr Ch.Sowmya, SMS (Agronomy). A total of forty women from Dhamannapet, Gavicherla, Layabarthi, Ellandhu, and Mamnoor participated in this event. Hands on training of bags making was given at KVK, Mamnoor from 26th to 28th March 2025 by hiring master trainers and also oriented on the business model. On March 29, 2025, participants visited Prabhavana Multi State Women's Cooperative Society Limited located in Ameerpet, Hyderabad. Smt Deepa, the organization's Director, discussed the various schemes available for starting a jute business. She also shared her success story, mentioning that their unit currently supplies 2,000 jute pouches for packaging a sweet called 'sreevariprasadam' to Tirumala Titupati Devathsanam. The valedictory ceremony for the four-day training took place at NAARM. Dr N.Rajanna, Pogramme Coordinator & Head, KVK delivered the welcome speech. and expressed gratitude to the sponsoring organization, NAARM, and promised to improve activities at KVK if more programs are provided in the upcoming years. Dr. Arunjyothi, SMS (Home Science) and Course Coordinator, provided an overview of the conducted program and its anticipated results. Dr. Nirmala, Principal Scientist and Member Secretary of SCSP at ICAR-NAARM, discussed the significance of SCSP initiatives. Dr. Rama Subramanyam, JD I/C at NAARM, who attended as a special guest, emphasized the importance of marketing businesses and enhancing value with designs on the bags. Dr. Kishan Kumar, the Director of Extension at PVNR TGVU, attended the event as the Chief Guest and congratulated the attendees on completing the training program, encouraging them to consider jute bag making as a business opportunity. Smt. Jyothi and Smt. Manjula provided their feedback regarding the program. The dignitaries on the stage unveiled a compiled resource folder on jute bag making and presented certificates to the participants. The Course Coordinator, Dr. Arunjyothi, SMS (Home Science), delivered the formal vote of thanks. Dr J. Sai Kiran, SMS (LPM) and Mr Harshavardhan Reddy, YP-1 of KVK also participated in the valedictory programme.
